Any success story deals with much deeper and more exciting questions.
How do I train to gain a mindset so that I can perform and excel at any task? How do I deal with my fears and doubts, especially when things go wrong? How can I motivate myself despite difficult conditions and make sure to not lose faith?
These are universal questions in life which affect us all. With this in mind, any record-setting swim is primarily a mental undertaking, with the goal of committing to addressing one's own fear and learning to cope with it.
As a cancer patient, I have had and still have to learn how to cope with psychological stress, such as fear of dying, not feeling well, as well as coping with overwhelming taxing physical, mental and emotional stress challenges.
Stress is something that we all have difficulty with. We encounter stress triggers every single day of our lives. Whether it's work, family, or school, stress is always present and rearing its ugly head in our direction.
Despite the way it may seem, stress wasn't meant to rule our life. Even the richest and most successful people in the world still deal with stress and panic attacks on a daily basis, just like the rest of us. What separates the happy people, who fully enjoy life and live it to their fullest potential, from the people that are miserable and constantly have headaches and issues to deal with, is oftentimes governed by only one factor: the way that they deal with stress and how they respond to it. Since stress is unavoidable, let's start to work on managing it and use it to our benefit.
In my keynotes I talk about my efforts to figure out ways to manage stress, to push myself at being in an optimal performance level, and ultimately about how I've experienced and then developed 7 Resilience Techniques with my cancer treatment, further fueled by my record breaking performance in swimming across the Viski Channel in 5 hours 23 minutes, as the first woman to ever attempt and succeed at this.
Does that sound like something you want to hear more about?
